The Culinary Services Department at Saint John?s University invite applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), benefit eligible position of Assistant Retail Operations Manager. $1,000 sign-on bonus valid through September 30, 2024. *Terms applied to sign-on bonus can be provided by hiring manager.
Under the general direction of the Retail Operations Manager, the Assistant Retail Operations Manager will oversee and participate in the supervision of all retail operations functions to include but not limited to customer service; food productions, directing the work of students, employees and volunteer staff; food and environmental safety; upholding established policies and procedures; and financial accountability.
This position is located on the SJU campus and requires regular, in-person availability Monday-Sunday. This position also requires every other weekend availability as Culinary Services operate 7 days a week throughout the year. This position supports Dining and Events operations in an assigned position during the summer months1.

1Summer assignment to begin on Sunday one week after spring commencement and to end one week before the first day of classes
Operations (Including Sexton Commons (50%) and Brother Willie?s Pub (20%))
Oversee operations in the absence of the Retail Operations Manager
Responsible and accountable for timely, efficient, and effective student employee schedules that will support and enhance the professional staff schedule.
Assist in the overseeing of effective and efficient management and supervision of food preparation and food service areas.
Assist in ordering products and supplies while keeping budgetary goals and customer satisfaction in decision making. Engage with vendors in a professional manner.
Recommend changes in menu items, ingredients, and procedures to improve quality, productivity, customer satisfaction and food/labor costs.
Follow applicable local, county, state and federal food safety guidelines to ensure food is prepared and served safely. Monitor employees to ensure compliance with food safety guidelines.
Assist in the safe and effective supervision and training of cleaning and sanitizing. Follow routine schedule for maintenance of tools, equipment and storage facilities including repairs of equipment.
Assist in monitoring production and staff practices to meet budgetary goals and reduce waste.
Provide positive and high-quality customer service.
Develop and implement promotional programs that will create excitement, attract customers and generate cash sales in Brother Willie?s Pub.
Coordinate with the Brother Willie Pub?s student manager and oversee the events calendar in the pub.
Participate in department meetings.
Supervision (30%)
Assist with the interviewing, hiring, training of Sexton and Brother Willie?s Pub staff.
Maintain a leadership role in the training, and supervision of all student employees in Brother Willie?s.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent education and experience.
Degree in Culinary Arts or one year of food service relatable work experience; supervisory experience preferred.
ServSafe certification preferred. (Successful candidate will be required to complete within 6 months of employment.)
Ability to use a variety of office and technical skills, including administering data, generating reports, organizing and managing information/files, and monitoring results.
Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
Ability to prioritize tasks and problem-solve.
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication abilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to perform essential job functions, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
Ability to tolerate temperature fluctuations.
Ability to perform physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs, and moving of the entire body, such as standing, walking, climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping, and handling of materials for extended periods of time.
Use of and exposure to products containing detergents, degreasers, and sanitizing solutions, with or without use of single use gloves
